The Quickest Way to Change Your Life

My husband stopped me dead in my tracks one morning recently.

He announced to me that I was “not grateful.”

What? I was shocked!

But rather than being angry at him for delivering that information, I knew I had to pause and spend some time looking at myself.  What I found was that he was right! My life was in a constant overwhelmed state and I had grown resentful and ungrateful!

Yuck.

My poor husband... who wants to be around resentful energy, anyways? The little voice inside of me said, “Start counting all of your blessings.” So I took pen to paper and started listing all the things in my life that I am grateful for. Once I started, I could not stop; there were pages and pages. I was mostly grateful that my husband had the courage to tell me the truth.

My list has now changed to a Gratitude Jar. Every morning I write down something I am grateful for and place it in my jar.  It is so cool to see the jar filled with Gratitude! By beginning my day writing down one thing I’m thankful for, it sets a tone of gratitude for my day instead of a resentful one! Plus, studies show that when you take time to count your blessings, like listing them or collecting them in a Gratitude Jar, you are more likely to be happier.

TRY IT.

Daily taking time to appreciate the blessings in my life has shifted my perspective and changed my life. Now it's your turn!

Start your own Gratitude Jar. Grab a mason jar or a vase or a bowl—anything around the house to collect you gratitude! Then take just a quiet moment each morning to write down something you are grateful for.

As you watch your jar fill, see if you notice a shift in your mindset. Is your chest expanding? Are you holding your head higher? Are you smiling more? Grateful energy is incredibly positive! Take that positive energy with you throughout your day and spread it!
