Her Doctor Had Never Seen Someone Her Age Move So Well
This life-changing story from one of my students is too powerful not to share with you all…
After a recent private session, one of my students excitedly shared the results from her latest annual physical checkup. She had some incredible news.
First, the nurse measured her height and discovered she had grown half an inch taller than last year. She had been bracing for the opposite—expecting to shrink, as had been the case every year before. Her weight had also gone down. Then, she learned that her vital signs had improved.
When the doctor came in, he asked how she was doing, and she shared that her overall pain—especially in her knee—had decreased significantly. The doctor then performed a flexibility test (which is now required by Medicare). He laid her back on the table, bent her knee, and rotated her leg to assess her hip mobility and flexibility.
Her doctor was amazed!
He couldn’t believe how flexible she was and how much range of motion she had. He even told her he had never seen anyone her age move so well. He asked her, “What have you been doing to make such a difference since last year?”
She said “The only thing I’ve changed is that I am stretching! It feels like stretching has given new life into my body. I feel better, so I move more. And the more I move, the better I feel.”
She told me that before she started stretching, she had constant pain when she moved, which led her to move less and less. She also recounted a fall she had 4-5 years ago that injured her knee, sparking her inactivity. The pain and fear of falling again kept her seated, and that lack of movement, she thinks, worsened her health physically and mentally.
But now, she believes wholeheartedly that stretching has given her life back, and she couldn’t be more grateful! She is back to her active lifestyle.
For me, hearing this made my heart sing, and I knew I had to share it with you. This is a real-life testament to the fact that Movement is Medicine!
— The more you move, the more you can move.
— The less you move, the less you can move.
Stretching doesn’t just benefit your muscles. It also supports your skeletal and circulatory systems. Stretching helps loosen tight muscles so you can move with ease and reduce pain.
It relieves pressure on your joints and opens pathways for blood, oxygen, nutrients, and hydration to flow freely throughout your body—allowing it to heal, reduce inflammation and improve overall health. That’s the miracle of stretching!
My student is living proof that stretching can truly improve your quality of life. I want everyone who walks through my studio doors to experience her story!
